Pair of French Bronze & Black Gilded Candlesticks
A pair of candlesticks in gilded bronze and black, finely chiselled.
Its general shape is sumptuous, its fluted column is covered with a black patina, a listel separates its triangular feet with lion paw feet. Late 19th Century, 12.5in tall.
Before the light produced by electricity became common as today, chandeliers were essential lighting elements at the beginning of the 19th century.
The light of the candles then reflected on the clear and reflective surfaces and then bathed the room in a warm and golden light.
Candlesticks were usually placed directly closest to the user.
